Asus ROG Phone | The Ultimate Gaming Phone is Here

ASUS has just unveiled the ROG phone, and according to ASUS, this is the world’s fastest phone.

With a Snapdragon 845 processor clocked at 2.9Ghz

SD 845 at 2.9Ghz

8 GB RAM

128/512 GB storage

The ASUS ROG is not just about raw performance.

First of all, look at this thing! Design wise it is clearly inspired by the ROG Gaming monitors and laptops. But we like this because mainly it is different to anything out there.

It is a similar size to the OnePlus 6, or be it a tad bigger and heavier. But it still feels comfortable to hold.

8.65 MM

200g

It is IP68 water resistant, we get stereo speakers, a headphone jack and a USB C port and a second one on the side. Which can also be used to charge it, or attach one of the available accessories.

Such as the Aero Active Cooler, which comes bundled with the ASUS ROG phone.

That’s right, the phone has its own modular fan add-on. It is to keep the phone from getting too hot when gaming, dock it with this, and everything will keep nice and cool.

And while you can play games without it, on longer stretches the phone can get quite hot. And you can actually adjust the fan speed on the phones’ very own Game Center App.

There is also a controller dock if you prefer gaming with physical buttons and a nifty desktop dock add-on. So you can just drop in your ASUS ROG phone, connect up a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and you are good to go.

So you can play mobile PUBG just like the proper PUBG

Then there is the Twin View Dock which has a second screen built in, so pop in your ROG phone and you basically got a Nintendo DS-style setup.

Which is super cool!

The Display

As for the screen, we get a 6 inch, Full HD Plus, HDR AMOLED display which looks really nice.

There is no notch, it is super color accurate, it can upscale games to HDR according to ASUS, but more importantly, it has got a 90Hz refresh rate up from the standard 60Hz.

Which makes everything between swiping between home screens to playing games that are optimized for it even smoother.

It doesn’t quite match up to the 120Hz of the Razor Phone but the ROG Phone has a one millisecond response time to reduce ghosting in game.

Honestly, we have to remember that we are talking about a phone here.

The Battery

AS you would expect for a phone that is all about playing games, it has got a pretty hefty battery as well. A 4000mah to be exact. Which is the same size as the Razor phone and the Huawei P20 Pro.

The 90Hz refresh rate and the overclock processor will definitely have an impact though, so do not expect it to last more than a day with regular use.

It does support quick charging 4 so it shouldn’t take long to top up.

The Camera

Elsewhere we get a dual lens camera setup with a 12MP main lens and second wide angel 8MP lens.

The camera seems decent enough, and it looks like the same camera used in the ASUS flagship phone Zenfone 5z.

The pricing and the availability have not been confirmed just yet.  However, we can safely say the ASUS ROG phone will not be cheap considering the specs and all the gaming extras.

First impression

It is great to see more brands coming out with proper gaming phones, the OS is still limited to Android apps and the ASUS phone software is not everyone’s cup of tea.

But with mobile gaming and game streaming growing all the time, there is definitely room for devices like this.

The ASUS ROG phone is technically very impressive, and if mobile gaming is for you then this is definitely worth giving a look.
